After last week’s leak of a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter coming to Darien Lake, the park today officially announced the coaster, set to open May 2018 as Tantrum. EPR Properties’s first major investment in the park, costing $5 million, will “confirm our status as New York State’s Coaster Capital and our commitment to providing guests with cutting-edge experiences,” said Chris Thorpe, Darien Lake’s general manager.
Tantrum riders will go up a 98-foot vertical lift at a 90-degree angle, straight up the coaster’s first hill. In seconds, the coaster will plummet into a 97-degree drop and pretzel inversion. Passengers will reach speeds of 52 mph as the coaster snakes through its course and finishes with a tilted loop.
Tantrum will be a very-near clone of the Iron Shark model, originating from Texas’s Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, with slightly changed statistics.
