On the first day of operation at the 2017 Ohio State Fair in Columbus, the Columbus Division of Fire today confirmed that after a flat ride accident, one rider died and seven more were severely injured by the ride itself. The event occurred at 7:19 local time on the Fireball flat ride.
Ohio governor John Kasich today spoke on the incident:
I am terribly saddened by this accident, by the loss of life and that people were injured enjoying Ohio’s fair. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those grieving and injured. I have ordered a full investigation into this incident and have ordered that all fair rides be shut down until additional safety inspections can be completed.
